The Modern Keener
Although largely forgotten in modern culture, keening was an Irish practice of ritualized lamenting. We once had a deep connection and practice of grieving with others and sharing our burden of loss. The “Bean Chaointe” (Women Keener) was said to be a “great crier”, and would embody the energy of the grief into Song. She is said to be capable of Pulling the grief out of you, through sound and that the soul on the other side of the veil could hear the keener and it would help them to continue to pass through.

“Lyndsey McAdams keening ritual and sound bath was an incredibly transformative experience. As a way to pprocess th loss of my Grandmother, I sought out this unique practice, hoping to find solace and healing. Keening, a traditional form of expresseing grief through wailing ad chanting, provided a cathartic outlet for my sorrow. Lyndseys etherial voice, filled withboth sorrow and compassion, creatied a space that felt sacred and safe. As she began to keen, the sound resonated deeply within me, unlocking emotionaln I have been holding onto. The addition of the singing bowls and gond created a mesmerizing soundscape that envelppmed me in a cocoon of healing energy . As the ritual progressed, I felt a profound connection to my grief. It was no longer a heavy burden, but rather a deep well of love. the sounds of Lyndseys voice and the instruments seemed to penetrate my soul, allowing me to process my emotions in a way that words could never fully express. I left the experience feeling lighter, healed, and more connected to the love I shared with my Grandmother.” - Poppy
