Mystical Monday: Celtic Keening Sound Ceremony
Although largely forgotten in modern culture, keening was an Irish practice of ritualized lamenting. We once had a deep connection and practice of grieving with others and sharing our burden of loss. The “Bean Chaointe” (Women Keener) was said to be a “great crier”, and would embody the energy of the grief into Song. She is said to be capable of Pulling the grief out of you, through sound and that the soul on the other side of the veil could hear the keener and it would help them to continue to pass through.
During this time together you will be invited to contribute to an altar honoring your loved one, ancestor or the experience that you are intentionally grieving or honoring. Then you will be led on a deep sound journey, channelled specifically for you and your loved ones. It is often reported that participants access deep states of meditative trance states, receive messages, and/or also feel a greater sense of relief and connection. Bring a yoga mat, pillows, and blankets. You will want to be as comfortable as possible during this experience. Arrive at 6:15pm to get comfortable. The experience will begin at 6:30pm and at that time there will be no entry to protect the space from distractions. We will end our evening around 7:30pm. The event is offered at a private historic Shaker Heights home near Southerly Park. Exact location and parking instructions will be given at registration. The number of participants we are able to accommodate is very limited, register early to claim your spot.
